Why did you...
...watch Avatar for the first time?
In my case:
I was already married and it was my vacation for that winter, so my dear wife and me left our son with my mom and drove through the thickest fog of the winter for about one hour to reach one of only 2 IMAX cinemas in the area. Before we left, I wasn't sure about which movie to watch (plus, some are dubbed and wife didn't speak Serbian language), so we made a reservation for Avatar. First, everybody was talking about it, and secondly it was to be my first IMAX experience.
After the movie, life was never really the same again.

Re: Why did you...
I first heard about Avatar by seeing the movie posters on various websites. At first, I didn't think anything of it because I thought Avatar was a live action movie of the Avatar: the Last Airbender series.
It wasn't until my brother started talking about it when I was visiting him in December of 2009 that I became interested in it. Naturally I checked it out and watched the trailer for it. Immediately, I thought it was awesome and I wanted to see it.
My brother was off work the day it came out on theater, but it had started snowing earlier that day and my brother was too paranoid to drive anywhere because of the snow. So, I never got to see it while I was visiting my brother.
It wasn't until I was visiting my mom and grandma, I finally got to see it. My grandma had taken me to see it.
After that, I was hooked.

Yeah, she's alive and well. And no, she is not computer literate.

Re: Why did you...
For some reason the whole advertisement campaign completely went past me... I'm not much of a movie goer. Last movie I had seen before was Lord of the Rings and before that I hadn't been in the movies for ages.
Then a few people around me said "Hey - I know you're into SciFi and fantasy, wouldn't that be a movie for you?"
Wasn't too convinced but it was a really dull winter and so I decided to give it a try (of course not before I asked in another forum if the movie had a happy end or not
)
The rest is history

Re: Why did you...
First I stumbled across some small notice on the net that JC would bring out a new movie (and also thought Neytiri might be a man as the first and only real shot I first saw of her was a small still from the Iknimaya Ikran taming scene when she was cowering in a position that didn't showed much of her except the face arms and legs - it was also a quite small pic).
After a 'random movie trailer evening' (when I was bored), I decided to maybe give it a try when it comes out - liking good scifi and being bored it seemed legit.
I was a bit confused what this would be from the first few texts about it but the trailer told me it could come out nicely. Nearly didn't make it to see it in the cinema (it was actually the very last week they showed it here).
The first day I went alone - the next time with granpa (!) and the third time I got mom to see it - they both liked it (though mom more - enough to let me watch it again, while grandpa doesn't see a reason to watch a movie more than once) - all in that last week.

Re: Why did you...
I wathed it in IMAX once, and it was my only time to watch it in the cinema. But after that, I can't count ho wmany times I wacthed it in 2D, on the computer, projected onto a large screen, HD, non-HD etc
Then I was a bit down (like many other people, right), thinking about what we are doing to our own planet etc... and I got the idea to check if there is a forum that gathers people with similar things in mind... So naviblue.com was the first on the list, and I didn't bother to search further.

I thought about this problems before already and somehow - like it can go - I just read Derrick Jensens 'Endgame' shortly before watching the movie. It somehow all hit the spot.

I heard James Cameron made a movie. That was all I needed to know. I didn't even watch any trailers.

Re: Why did you...
It's the first JC movie I've ever seen
Alien's too scary, Titanic too cheesy and without a happy end (and it has Leonardo theCabrio in it)...

Aliens is as much an action movie as it is a horror movie.

I didn't use to like DiCaprio before, but actually he's a REALLY good actor! I don't think you would like movies like Shutter Island, Django or The Departed, but he really stands out on those films.Kiyevanie wrote:It's the first JC movie I've ever seen![]()

I think he has really proven he's not just a pretty face (even though I don't think he's that good-looking).
Back on topic, I went to see avatar without much expectations, but I always enjoyed sci-fi so I thought I would give it a shot. And I realised I was in love with it as soon as it ended
Peace.

Re: Why did you...
It was a surprise present from dad. He took me to his work (he's a violinist of an orchestra in an opera house) on a Friday evening, told me to practice the violin while waiting for him, and at 9 pm we went to the theater. I wasn't aware of why and for what we were going. I fell in love with the movie at the first sight. It was so enchanting and magical.....

Oh, I just heard that there was a new film who had beaten Titanic as the highest grossing movie of all times.
Since I liked Titanic a lot, I thought, 'what kind of movie would beat that?'
Then I saw it was James Cameron himself who broke his own record. So I decided to go see it.

Re: Why did you...
Well I admit when Avatar came out I really didn't know what it is about, And I made the mistake of not seeing it( I was in a phase where I wasn't going to see many movies until they came out on DVD). Well in July of 2010 my Dad rented Avatar and I met Neytiri and the rest of the Omaticaya and I have been hooked ever since, I still kick myself to this day missing the chance to see it in 3D,a mistake that won't be repeated when the sequels come out.

I liked the storyline behind it.
I know people think it's similar to other movies, but whether it is or not, I still liked how James Cameron put his story together. I could not wait to see what the movie entailed. I loved (needless to say) Parker's role in the movie, as well as the other members of RDA.
